Privacy
What XLWrite keeps about you, as of 20 October 2026.
The short version
Your books live on your own computer. We see them only if you sign in and ask us to carry them between your machines. We keep your email address and what you have subscribed to, and nothing else about you. Nobody is tracked, nothing is sold, and nothing you write is used to train anything.
Your books
When you write in XLWrite, every word is saved to a database inside your own browser, on your own computer. It is not sent to us. You can use XLWrite with no account at all and nothing you write ever leaves the machine.
If you sign in and press the button that carries your books between machines, a copy of those books — the words, the pictures, and any typefaces you supplied — is stored on our server so your other computers can fetch it. Only you can read it there, and only the books you chose to send. You can keep any book off the server, per book, and you can delete the server copy from the library.
If you share a book with somebody, they can see that book and nothing else, for as long as the link they used is valid and you have not removed them.
Your account
An account is an email address and a random identifier. Signing in uses a link sent to that address or a password you chose; we store the password only in the hashed form the sign-in service keeps. One account works across all of Xandland, so the same email signs you into XLScreenplay and the rest.
Paying
Card details go to Stripe and never pass through us. We keep a record of which subscription you have and when it is paid up to, so the application knows what to let you do. We do not see your card number.
What we do not do
- No analytics, no advertising networks, no tracking scripts.
- No selling or sharing of anything about you to anyone.
- No use of your writing to train software of any kind, ours or anyone else’s.
- No reading of your books by us, unless you send one to us because something is wrong with it and ask us to look.
Cookies
One kind: the cookie that keeps you signed in, set by the sign-in service. There are no others. The application also keeps a few preferences — the colour of your desk, how your shelf is sorted — in your browser’s own storage, where they stay.
Who holds what
The application is served by Vercel. Accounts, subscription records and synced books are held by Supabase. Payments are handled by Stripe. Each of them holds only the part needed for its job.
Leaving
Delete a book and it is gone from your computer; delete it from the server too and it is gone from ours. Cancel a subscription and your books are untouched. If you want your account removed entirely, write to us and it will be.
Changes
If what we keep changes, this page changes with it, and the date at the top changes too.
